ECHA issues first report on its Harmonized Enforcement Project on Substance Restrictions

On February 8, 2018 ECHA published its first report on joint market surveillance to evaluate compliance to substance restrictions according to REACH Annex XVII. Contributions to this report have been received from 27 countries which reported on 5625 product checks during the project.
US EPA Revises Voluntary Consensus Standards for Formaldehyde Emission in Composite Wood

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has updated its list of standards for formaldehyde emission in composite wood products and clarified a technicality to allow panel manufacturers to correlate their quality control methods to either the large or small chamber. This final rule (83 FR 5340) became effective on February 7, 2018.
EU Strengthens BPA Restrictions in Food Contact Materials and Articles

The EU has strengthened its requirements for bisphenol A (BPA) in ‘food contact plastics’ and ‘food contact varnished or coated products’. The provisions in the law will become effective on September 6, 2018.
US CPSC Publishes Final Rule & Method for Labs to Comply with CPSIA Phthalates

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has published a new method for phthalates and a final rule to allow accredited laboratories two years to update their scope of accreditation. The final rule will become effective on April 25, 2018.
